AOW-Brielle-CummingsBrielle Cummings sports the number two on her jersey, which might seem apt since this is her second year on the Verona High School girls varsity basketball team. But, so far this season, Cummings seems determined to play second to none.

When the Hillbillies took on Saint Vincent Academy on December 21, Cummings led her team in scoring, putting up 18 of the 56 points for Verona. A team player known for her ball handling skills and ability to control the court, Cummings has 107 rebounds in just two years. She’ll get ample chances to show off her shooting and ball possession skills on Friday, when Verona goes up against West Essex in the first of the holiday tournament games that pit VHS against the teams of western Essex County.

During the 2013-2014 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters recognizes a different senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
