If you thought your chance to cheer for Verona football players was over, think again: Three Verona residents will be taking the field on Friday to play in a state championship game.

Robbie Walsh, Tucker Freeman and Jordan Francullo play for St. Peter’s Prep, which faces Paramus Catholic at MetLife Stadium on Friday, December 6 for the non-public group 4 crown.

St. Peter’s has just one loss this season, to St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale. The scores of the rest of its games look more like basketball than football, like its 62-7 win over North Bergen or its 61-24 trampling of Paul VI.

Walsh, a 6-1, 260 senior, is a team captain. Freeman, a senior receiver, has averaged 6.4 yards per carry this season. Francullo, a sophomore, had an interception in St. Peter’s 76-0 rout of Kearny in September.

But Paramus Catholic isn’t going to be a pushover. The team includes state-ranked defensive players like Jabrill Peppers, who has committed to Michigan, and lineman Nick Flores. It is coming off a 9-2 season, including a 21-20 victory over Don Bosco that both put Paramus Catholic in the finals and avenged a loss to Don Bosco earlier in the season.

If you are going, the game starts at 8 p.m.
