On the football field, there’s always plenty of praise for the glory positions like wide receiver, running back and quarterback. But this season, a Hillbilly player whose name begins with the letter Q has been getting some applause as well: Quinn Cummings, the lineman with the big number 75 on his jersey.

One of three co-captains on this year’s team, this Q has done a pretty solid job of protecting Verona’s other q, quarterback Frank Ferrari. Working with his younger brother Sam and fellow linemen Billy Giuliano, Mike Cifaretto, Mike Desomma, Matt Riccitelli and Kyle Brennan, he has kept Verona’s opponents in their place. But Cummings showed he is capable of more at the October 4 game against Newark’s Central High School when he scooped up a fumble and went 31 yards for the first Verona touchdown of the game. For his efforts, Quinn Cummings is this week’s Verona Sports Boosters Senior Athlete of the Week.

Football is not Cummings’ only athletic effort. He stepped into the heavyweight slot on the VHS wrestling team last season, and earned second team All-Conference honors for his work.

During the 2013-2014 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters recognizes a different senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
