Google Puts Verona On The Map

GoogleMaps-Streetview-CarThere was a very unusual car driving around Verona: A Google Maps Street View team was circling town, taking pictures of our little town.

We challenged readers to take a picture back and Andrew Mensch, the branch manager of the Prudential New Jersey Properties office in Verona was the first one to send a photo in.

You can’t see it in the photo, but the Google car is topped by a special camera that takes a panoramic, 360 degree image that is tagged by a GPS sensor that is also in the car.

Google Maps has had some lovely aerial views of Verona for some time and even a street view on Bloomfield Avenue that was clear enough for Jeff Shilling to win our “Where in Verona” contest in February 2011.

No word on when the new images will be live on Google.
