Two Verona teen bands are going to be competing in November at a fundraiser for a school library in Guatemala.
Faux Johnny and Zenith, which have both participated in Verona’s Cops & Rockers, will be part of the Battle of the Bands for Books on Wednesday, November 6, from 7 to 10 p.m. (It’s the night before Teacher’s Convention so there is no school the next day.)
The organizers say there will be food, drinks and other fun stuff for sale, and all proceeds benefit the library of a new elementary school in Guatemala. The event is organized by Molly Frey, a seventh grader at Grover Cleveland Middle School in Caldwell, in honor of her upcoming Bat Mitzvah at Congregation Agudath Israel. Frey was adopted as an infant from Guatemala and has chosen to do this special project so she can give something back to the poor children of Guatemala, where the illiteracy rate is about 31% and the children are desperately in need of books to help them learn to read and better their lives.
The Battle of the Bands for Books will be held at the Montclair Women’s Club at 82 Union Street. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. There are eight local teen bands competing for first place and it will be hosted by the fabulous DJ Zap Music.
