MyVeronaNJ-Fred-Pool-DeckBagelwich Bagel Bakery has been awarded the contract for the Verona Pool snack bar this summer.

The business, which is based at 652 Bloomfield Avenue, won the contract with a bid of $25,108, which is substantially higher than last year’s winning bid. While most town contracts go to the lowest responsible bidder, the pool contract is awarded to the highest bidder. Bagelwich last won the snack bar contract in 2008 and 2009.

Last year, Mountainside-based Vending to Please won a one-year contract with a bid of $20,000; the other two bidders, who were not identified, bid $18,000 and $18,300 last year. There were complaints by pool-goers that Vending to Please’s prices were higher than the previous concessionaire, Lakeside Deli.

The resolution approved by the Town Council Monday night did not indicate what other bids had been received for this year’s contract.
