If your house here in Verona or down the shore was damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, you have just two more days to file for a reassessment.

This is a state law, but you’ll need to contact the municipal tax office where the property is located to make it happen. In Verona, that office is up at the Community Center at 800 Bloomfield Avenue and the assessor is George Librizzi. For other locations, try the New Jersey Association of County Tax Boards.

You’ll need to make your reassessment request in writing by January 10, which is Thursday. Describe the damage done to the house and include the quotes or bills that you have gotten for repairs.
