The Warrior Pose is a move for yoga. But with Joe Cordasco’s track record–and hairstyle–the wrestling community might want to consider adopting the name for their own use.
Since his freshman year on the Verona High School wrestling team, Cordasco has made it clear that he knows exactly what kind of warrior-like intensity it takes to defeat his opponent. He had 16 wins last season, 11 of which were by pin, and Cordasco kicked off the first match of the 2012-2013 with a pin at the 3:44 mark into the match. For his focus, Cordasco is this week’s Verona Sports Boosters Senior Athlete of the Week.
Cordasco, who also is a starting lineman for Hillbillies’ football team, will be wrestling at 170 pounds this year, which makes him one of the biggest wrestlers for the Maroon and White, with results that will weigh heavily on its success. His first-place pin in the Edison Classic this past Saturday was one of the reasons why Verona came away with a second-place finish in the gathering of nine north Jersey teams. When not on either the football field or the wrestling mats, Cordasco has been known to perform in bands with his twin brother, Giancarlo.
During the 2012-2013 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters will be recognizing a different senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
