The Montclair Art Museum is going to be featuring Jean Shin as part of its New Directions contemporary art series next fall, and they have an unusual appeal for help from the public.
Shin creates sculptures and installations using materials gathered from the community in which she works; for this project, she’s chosen flatware. So the museum has begun collecting metal spoons, knives, forks, serving utensils, and more for the exhibition.
MAM has two upcoming free events that will feature activities to encourage visitors to participate in the project:
- December 2, 1–5 p.m. – Free Family Day: Bring your own spoon! Bring a metal spoon to donate to Jean Shin’s project for a free cup of hot cocoa!
- December 6, 5–9 p.m. – Free First Thursday Night: Flatware Raffle. Every piece of metal flatware will earn you one raffle ticket. The museum will be raffling off exciting MAM prizes at the event and all tickets will be submitted into a grand prize raffle to be pulled in early spring.
