Chloe Mathewson had a different idea for her 11th birthday party this year. Her love of animals led her family—with a group of her close friends in tow— to the Montclair Animal Shelter to volunteer their services. With just a brief introduction from the shelter staff, the girls eagerly set to work cleaning the cats’ cages, which included refilling food and water containers, cleaning litter boxes, changing bedding, and of course, petting the playful felines. The girls were happy to help and many even hinted they might steal Chloe’s idea for their next party. At Chloe’s request, the party attendees generously donated money, food, and bedding in lieu of birthday gifts. Their goodwill is today’s “Verona View”.
