The Verona Foundation For Education Excellence, a non-profit that provides grants to Verona public school teachers and programs, will hold a fundraiser on Wednesday, October 24 at the Verona Inn from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.

The fundraiser will include a silent auction of both autographed sports memorabilia from the Giants, Jets, Devils, Yankees, Mets (and more), and tickets to professional sporting events. Tickets are $40 per person. Verona, and can be ordered from Melissa Collins at 973-857-1632 or by email.

VFEE’s grants have supported a wide variety of educational programs in Verona. Former Forest and Laning Avenue elementary school music teacher Jean Hughes used a VFEE grant to bring the Lehigh Valley Drum Circle to her schools last year. The Circle brought 70 West African djembe drums to the schools and each grade took part in a 45-minute session. According to Hughes and the Circle’s Maureen Jerant, drumming and rhythm are closely tied to the development of language skills, motor skills and social skills. “The children were very focused throughout the day and had a great time. Thank you VFEE and the Lehigh Valley Drum Circle for a wonderful experience,” said Hughes.
