Verona has lots of very talented young baseball players. None of them areĀ  competing in the Little League World Series, but there is a Verona connection to this afternoon’s game.

D.J. Pico is a centerfielder for theĀ Par-Troy East Little League. His mom, Danielle Pico, teaches geometry and algebra at Verona High School, and her VHS colleagues are planning to cheer the game on television.

This is the World Series debut of the Par-Troy team, which has been on a tear: The New Jersey state champion, itĀ  has a 6-0 record for elimination games this summer. Its opponent this afternoon is a team from San Antonio, Texas.

The game will be on ESPN at 3 p.m. ESPN is FIOS channel 70 and channel 12 on Comcast/Xfinity. You can also watch the game online through ESPN.com.
