The New York Giants have opened their training camp at the University of Albany and with all apologies to Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks, we’d like to think that No. 15 is the wide receiver to watch. That’s Dan DePalma, whose effort to mimic the play of Wes Welker was a key factor in the Giants’ Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots this past February.
What’s this season going to hold for DePalma? “Hopefully, big things,” is what he told the Star Ledger‘s Mike Garofalo in an interview last month:
I know my role will be on special teams mostly. Play some special teams, make some big plays and make some tackles. Just pretty much contribute anywhere I can. I’m that all-around guy that can play a little bit of defense on the practice squad, they can move me around on special teams. Wherever the coach needs me is where I’ll be and I’ll do it to the best of my ability.
