The Caldwell College Division of Education will hold a literacy conference, “Open Books Open Minds” on Friday, March 9. The conference runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The conference will include presentations by an array of successful authors and will focus on how to engage young readers and help them improve their writing skills through books. It is open to teachers, parents, administrators, media specialists, and reading specialists.
The keynote speaker will be David Lubar who will present on “From Shelving Books and Annoying my Teachers to Writing Books and Hooking Readers.” Lubar is the author of children and young adult books such as “Attack of The Vampire Weenies;” “Enter the Zombie,” “Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie” and “Punished,” about a boy who is cursed to speak in puns. The well-known storyteller, Sharon Dennis Wyeth, will also speak at the conference.
Breakfast and lunch will be served and the day will close with the distribution of certificates and a book signing by the various invited authors. Literature written by the invited authors will be available for purchase. For more information call 973-618-3407.
