Call it the Attack of the Three Jakes:  If you had shouted “Great job, Jake” any time during the Verona-Glen Ridge hockey team’s 9-3 victory over Millburn on Saturday, January 14, it would have been pretty plausible.

Jake Paganelli, a freshman player from the Verona side of the team, was credited with an assist on the first goal of the night, and scored in his own right in the second period. Jake Facey, a Verona senior, scored the lone VGR goal in the second period. Jake Biondi, a junior from Glen Ridge, was in goal and is credited with 31 saves.

But with a score as lopsided as this one, there is plenty of other credit to be given. Max Linnett, Glen Ridge senior, had three goals on the night, divided evenly between the three periods. Matt Lander, a senior captain from the Glen Ridge side of the team also got on the board, as did Verona sophomore Dylan DeCandia. And Devon McKenna, a senior defense player from Verona, slammed in the seventh goal of the evening with an amazing slap shot.

Philip Pikus scored two goals for Millburn, with the third goal coming from his brother, John.

VGR takes on Bernards High School this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Codey Arena.
