Schools from across Essex County gathered at Seton Hall on Sunday for the Essex County Relays. Though the day was dominated by St. Benedict’s Prep and Columbia High School, the girls winter track team from Verona High School did have some highs on the day.

The girls 3200 team–Heather Sweeney, Sarah Conboy, Melanie Egan and Kelsey Attamante–took third place with a time of 10:40.90. The hurdles team of  Erin Smythe, Laura Williams, Colleen Carr and Marybeth Grund also took third with a time of 36.43, just half a second behind Livingston. The girls finished the day in 8th place, behind Livingston, but ahead of Caldwell and West Essex High Schools.

The Verona boys finished in the middle of the pack on the 1600 with a time of 4:01.95, and seventh in the distance medley. Kyle Thomas threw 35 feet in shot put, helping Verona to a 10th place finish in the shot put relay.Photos © Fred Goode Productions. All rights reserved
