Next Tuesday, September 20, Children Having Individual Learning Differences (C.H.I.L.D.) will be offering a free lecture, “Don’t Mess with Me: the Connection Between Self-Esteem and Bullying.” The talk will be held at 7 p.m. at the Verona Community Center, 880 Bloomfield Avenue.

Self esteem affects every facet of our lives, from career choice to health, from whom we marry (or not) to finances. But what, if any, is the connection between how one feels about oneself and acts of bullying? The lecture focuses on:

– Why self-esteem is important
– How it impacts our lives (both positive and negative)
– Activities for building a strong self worth.

This lecture will also examine the correlation between bullies, their targets and their individual self-image. Janet Pfeiffer, international motivational speaker and award-winning author, will discuss how the foundation for strong, confident, successful children is a strong sense of self. She is an NJEA Registered Provider who specializes in bullying, anger management and conflict resolution. In addition, she serves as a consultant to many companies and educational institutions, including Rutgers University, the New Jersey Education Association, Learning Annex, William Paterson University Women’s Center, Catholic Community Services, Passaic County Community College, American Business Academy, Bergen County Police and Fire Academy, Cook’s College, Kean University, and Ocean County College. Janet’s latest book is The Secret Side of Anger.

  1. Sounds like a great workshop for parents and educators. Unfortunately, there is a Back to School night scheduled for the same night at the same time.
