The Verona-Cedar Grove Chorus is holding an open house for all interested vocalists on Tuesday, September 13, at 7 p.m., at the H.B. Whitehorne Middle School, 600 Bloomfield Avenue, in Verona. The informal gathering will be followed by the first rehearsal of the 2011 – 2012 season.
The Chorus is open to those who enjoy singing with a vocal group; tenors are especially sought. The ability to read music is preferred but not necessary. Auditions are not required to join the group, which meets every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Rehearsals run through December 6 and this year’s holiday concert is December 11 at Verona High School. A benefit will also be performed prior to the concert at a local nursing home or senior residence.
According to Tom Jung, VCG Chorus president, the chorus offers not only the opportunity to participate in an outstanding community vocal group, but camaraderie as well. “The Verona-Cedar Grove Chorus is a very welcoming choral group,” said Jung. “Besides the enjoyment of getting together to rehearse and perform choral favorites, it’s also a great way to meet and connect with people in the area who share your love of music.”
The chorus is currently under the direction of Denise Bastanza and Paul Villarreal is the accompanist. The group has been showcasing its talents for over 60 years and is comprised of vocalists from all across north Jersey.
