The Knights of Columbus of Cedar Grove and Verona recently donated more than $10,000 to Essex County organizations dedicated to bettering the lives of people with special needs.

The Knights of Columbus welcomed to its July 28 meeting representatives from organizations serving the greater Essex County area to present them with donation checks. Those organizations included ARC of Essex County, Camp Fatima, Catholic Charities, EPOCH (Educational Programs for Children Handicapped), First Occupational Center of New Jersey, Goodwill Industries of New Jersey, Holy Cross Center of Learning, The Michael Fund, New Day Community, Northwest Essex Health Care Network, the School for Special Children and St. Vincent’s Nursing Home.

The Knights spent several weekends earlier this year collecting donations at area supermarkets, at St. Catherine of Siena and Our Lady of the Lake parishes,; and through a mail campaign.

“The success of this fund raising program comes from the caring and generosity of the people in our community,” said Grand Knight Tony Morano. “Our Council is happy to be able to make such a sizable donation to these organizations each year.”

The Knights of Columbus of Cedar Grove and Verona once again landed this year among the top 10 councils in all of New Jersey for the amount the council collected. The Knights of Columbus Council 3632 has been serving Cedar Grove and Verona since 1953, providing volunteers, funding, and other support for various projects that benefit the community.
