The weather barely feels like spring, but the Verona Recreation Department is announcing that online registration for most summer recreation programs will will begin on Thursday, March 31.

The summer recreation program runs for five weeks after schools close. It is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, and will take place at four locations. Each one is for a different group of children based on their grade as of September 2011. Summer Adventure, for kids in 5th through 8th grades is at Verona High School. Elementary Zone, for third and fourth graders, is at F.N. Brown School. Primary Park, for first and second graders, is at Laning Avenue School. Tot Lot, for pre-K four year olds (children must be four by October 1, 2011) and kindergartners, is at Brookdale School, and this year will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well. There will be no babysitting arrangements, as there had been in the previous years.

This year’s registration fee is $200 per child, with a maximum family registration fee of $400. There will be a $30 late fee per child for registration after May 26, with a $50 maximum late fee per family. The full list of summer programs is here.

Online registration for Summer Adventure, Elementary Zone, Primary Park and special trips will begin on Thursday, March 31. In-person registration will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 at the Verona Community Center. Tot Lot registration must be done in person. It will be held on the evening of April 21, and daily thereafter from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To register a child for Tot Lot, you must show his or her birth certificate and immunization record.

The Rec Department will hold a parents information meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17 at the VCC.
