James Decker Hayes Jr., a former Verona resident who was a long-time supporter of scouting, will be honored posthumously for his years of outstanding contributions to Camp Glen Gray on October 17. Hayes will be inducted into the Camp Glen Gray Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Friends of Glen Gray, a non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining the Mahwah, N.J.-camp’s grounds and traditions.

Mr. Hayes served as assistant scoutmaster and committeeman at Troop 5 Verona. As a Scout leader, he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society and went on to earn Wood Badge, the highest level of adult leader training available in Scouting. Mr. Hayes was also inducted as an Honored Member of the Old Guard, Camp Glen Gray’s honor society whose volunteer members are committed to furthering the value of the camp to youth and the broad community it serves. Mr. Hayes’ dedication to camping and Scouting won him the Silver Beaver Award, the council-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America.

The ceremony honoring Mr. Hayes will be held at Camp Glen Gray from 3 to 6 p.m. For more information, or to make a reservation, please visit the camp’s Web site or call (201) 327-7234.
