Golf Team Honors: Like Father, Like Son

Will LaRiccia and his father after Monday's match.

Today at the Super Essex Conference Golf Championships at Forest Hills Golf Club in Bloomfield, the Verona golf team scored 471, good for fourth place, behind Livingston, Glen Ridge and Nutley. Even more impressive for the Hillbillies was the fact that Verona junior Will LaRiccia was the individual tournament champion, shooting a 79, the best game of his life.

It wasn’t the first time a William LaRiccia earned conference champion honors. Back in 1977, when William (Bill) LaRiccia Sr. was on the VHS golf team, he was also named conference champion for shooting the best golf game of the day. Talk about a chip off the old block.

The golf team is currently 4-5 in the league, with two matches left this week. “We’re pretty happy with that record,” says 3-year coach Bob Brady. And with another year of a LaRiccia on the links, Coach Brady should be pretty happy next season, too.
