Last night, the Verona softball team, seeded 16th and last in the state tournament, very nearly pulled off a stunning upset of #1 seeded Park Ridge, in Park Ridge.

Verona got on the board first, driving in four runs in the first inning alone.  Park Ridge finally scored three runs in the fourth inning,  but Verona was still ahead, 8-3. Park Ridge put up two more runs in the sixth, but still trailed Verona.

Ultimately Verona’s bid failed, when Park Ridge rallied in the final inning and added five runs to Verona’s one. The final tally was 10-9. Michelle Della Vecchia drove in three runs for Verona.

Ironically, the Baseball team also faced Park Ridge in a playoff game yesterday. That game ended in a loss for Verona as well, 5-3.
