Obituaries: Kathryn James, Virginia Sloyan, Gregory Schnurr

Miss Kathryn A. James, 58, died on Thursday March 25, 2010 in West Caldwell.

Services will be held in the United Methodist Church of Verona, Montrose Avenue at Hill Street, on Monday March 29 at 10 a.m. Visiting at the Church one half hour prior to service.

Born in Glen Ridge, Miss James grew up in Verona and lived in Montclair for 30 years before moving to West Caldwell.

She graduated from Catawba College in North Carolina with a degree in Early Elementary Education. Miss James was the Office Manager for the Olympic Shop in Upper Montclair and Hahnes & Co. in Montclair.

She is the daughter of Dorothy and the late Havelock James, the sister of Ruth J. Houser and the aunt of Daniel James Houser.

Memorial donations to the United Methodist Church of Verona or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Virginia R. Sloyan

Mrs. Virginia R. ( nee Ruane ) Sloyan, 83, died on Friday March 26, 2010 in St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.

A funeral mass will be offered in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Cedar Grove on Tuesday March 30 at 10 a.m. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Sloyan lived in Bayonne and Verona prior to moving to West Orange 4 years ago. Mrs. Sloyan graduated from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in NYC and was the first nurse in the State of NJ to receive her CCRN certification. She was a Registered Nurse at the Greenville Hospital in Jersey City for 40 years, and was instrumental in the development and management of the Intensive Care Unit.

She is the loving mother of Michele Staranka and her husband Stephen, the dear sister of Anne Grady, the Reverend John Ruane, SJ, and the dear grammy of Christopher, Sean and Jaclyn. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack, her son Patrick and her brothers Tommy, Billy and Joey.

Memorial donations to the Tara Keegan Fund, 4 Yale Court, East Brunswick NJ 08816 would be appreciated.

Gregory P. Schnurr

Mr. Gregory P. Schnurr died on March 23, 2010. He was 23. Private services were held.

Born in Belleville, Gregory was a lifelong Verona resident.

He was a 2004 graduate of Verona High School. He was a student in the Surgical Tech program of Dover Business College in Clifton and a former member of the Verona Rescue Squad.

He is the beloved son of Matthew J. Schnurr and his wife Lisa Adubato-Schnurr, the dear brother of Brian and Jessica, the loving grandson of Patricia Adubato, the late Peter M. Adubato, Esq and the late Shirley P. Schnurr, the nephew of Deborah G. Pecora Schnurr, MD, Peter P. Adubato, Esq. and his wife Sara Adubato, Esq. and the dear friend of Kristen Kohanik.

Memorial donations to the Verona Rescue Squad would be appreciated.
