Used Children’s Books Needed

February 16, 2010

myveronanj-booksConnie Pifher, Verona’s unofficial clearinghouse for charitable giving, is asking for contributions of gently used children’s books and magazines. The reading materials are being donated to the Paterson school district in response to a request from Pifher’s sister, a media specialist there.

Pifher began collecting books from the Verona community for the Paterson schools last fall. “The response of the Paterson children has been overwhelming,” she says. The books are being used in school libraries and in classrooms in schools that have no libraries; extras are being given to parents, who take them home for younger children. “The children really appreciate them and look forward to reading now,” she says.

Reading materials should be dropped off in Pifher’s office on the first floor of the Verona Community Center. In addition to books and magazines for children in grades K through 8, children’s books in Spanish are also appreciated.
